About

Mike Gordon

The most common question people ask when they first meet Mike is “Wow Mike, what modelling agency do you represent?” annnnnnnnd I’m totally kidding. Born in Toronto, Mike rocked the block his mushroom cut and imitation PUMPs in the 90′s. Mike didn’t grow up in a Christian environment and at 14 he was kicked out of his house due to issues in the family. The next day police had to escort him back into his house where he was given a garbage bag and 5 minutes to grab his stuff. This eventually led him to getting involved in the wrong crowds, into drug, alcohol and crime. After living this way for years, a friend invited him to a basketball outreach program put on by a local church. Through this ministry he met the youth pastor and after slowly connecting with the church – On March 13th, 2002 he gave his life to Christ on a mission trip down in Mexico…He’s been claiming he’s a born again Mexican ever since.

Over the years Mike has done everything from playing basketball against an NBA player to surfing in California to stand-up comedy at Yuks Yuks to being on national TV to climbing a mountain in China to living with The Amazing Race’s Jet Black to eating dinner with UFC fighters to white water rafting in the Central American jungles to climbing the Monty Python Castle in Scotland to being selected for Fear Factor Live. He’s the modern day Forrest Gump with stories so crazy they sound completely made up.

The Speaking

In 2012, Mike felt God leading him to focus on speaking full-time so September 1st, 2012 he moved from his pastoral commitments to chase after this calling and dream. He has had the opportunity to speak well over 2000 times to tens of thousands of people over the years becoming a sought after international speaker. He has spoken to crowds of 1 to crowds of 15,000+  as he travels coast to coast in Canada and the U.S. He has been as far out as China as he travels to other countries around the world as well.

With his conservative theology yet unorthodox approach to speaking, Mike consistently speaks to every age bracket in different settings from festivals, concerts, conferences, Bible Colleges, Sunday mornings, retreats, camps, workshops, schools, TED Talks and rallies. Through his experience on these platforms, he has had the privilege to team up with speakers like Nick Vujicic, Francis Chan, Jefferson Bethke, Tony Campolo, Eric Samuel Timm, Shane Claiborne, Reggie Dabbs, Chap Clark, Duffy Robbins, Mark DeVries, Mike Foster, Bob Lenz, Michael Ramsden and more. On top of that, Mike has teamed up with bands such as Hillsong, Lecrae, TobyMac, Switchfoot, Newsboys, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Tenth Avenue North, Kari Jobe, Skillet, Relient K, Rend Collective, Matthew West, For King and Country, Brit Nicole, Kutless, Big Daddy Weave, Michael W. The Rock House Ministries

In 2004 Mike experienced his first taste of ministry as a youth intern starting up some ministries for the summer and after that summer he knew this was what he wanted to do with his life. He dropped out of school where he was studying business to pursue a life in ministry. He eventually received his Bachelor in Theology, as well receiving his ordination as a pastor. With his business and ministry background, under this title Mike has worked with churches and organizations starting or reshaping over 20 ministries in Canada. His current project he just launched in November 2015 is called 2230 which is geared towards young professionals. Through the grace of God, this ministry has already become one of the largest young professional ministries in the country.

The Emceeing

On top of speaking, Mike emcees events using his experience on stage, as well his experience of knowing how things work backstage to help in this capacity. Through years of pastoring and his time doing stand-up comedy, he adds a professional yet entertaining blend in this role. He has emceed on Lecrae’s tour, festivals, concerts, conferences, fundraisers, weddings and more.

The Heart Initiative

Mike’s passion to speak is fuelled by his love for Jesus and his love for people. He recognizes that having a speaking platform opens up doors for him to connect with people on a more personal level. The heart initiative has been created to give Mike personal time with kids, teens or adults with disabilities when he comes into their area to speak. If you would love Mike to connect with someone in specific, please send an email to set something up as he would be privileged to have the opportunity to come visit, hangout or have a meal together outside of the main crowd he is speaking to.

The Mentorship

Mike believes it is extremely important to build up and invest into the next generation of leaders. He recognizes that God has blessed his speaking ministry beyond his imagination and through his experience in this speaking world, he wants to help people who have the same vision, passion and dreams to find success in the itinerant speaking field by walking alongside them as they take their first steps.

The Book

After writing monthly articles before blogs were cool, a few people in the ministry world encouraged Mike to start writing a book. The focus of the book is based off the response “You’re Christian, but you’re normal!”. The goal is to communicate the lessons learned from Jesus in a fresh  and raw perspective that will uniquely speak to and challenge new believers to mature Christians in their walk with Christ. Mike spent a month in L.A working on his book while getting feedback from a New York Times best selling author. If all goes to plan, the book shouldn’t suck.
